Hole In The Wall

In early 2022, we began carving this small, quaint home office in the heart of Bandra in Mumbai. The office was imagined as a homogenous space, with monotone highlights on the floor and classic accents in teak wood. Originally a dimly lit space, it has been transformed by puncturing a big hole in the wall, allowing natural light to flood the space.

The main entrance to the space is from the north east, through a reclaimed teak wood and glass door. The entrance is flanked by tall windows that are adorned by natural greens and allow soft light to fill up the foyer space. On either side of the foyer, sits a teak wood and cane waiting bench and a manager’s desk. One enters the main working area through a large teak wood framed, fluted glass sliding door, allowing diffused light to seep into the space, while maintaining privacy.

design

A large, striped tile pattern in beige and brown monotones envelops the floor and a hand –
textured paint engulfs the walls, soft corners, junctions and ceiling, creating an entirely seamless shell. Functional aspects such as storage units, printers, etc have been carefully tucked away into niches such that the eye catches the seamlessness between the floor and the wall

The main work desk sits as an anomaly in a perfectly symmetrical space, facing the large windows. The table, a bespoke piece, has a cantilevered top resting on a wooden support mushrooming from the floor. We aimed to create a space that draws you to pause, reflect, and resist the maniacal pace of our city.
